Maou was a remake from the korean drama “The Devil”. It is a story about a lawyer called Manaka Tomoo, played by Ohno Satoshi, who has two sides to him. The ‘angelic lawyer’ and the one with a dreaded past and wants to seek revenge. A person called Serizawa Naoto, played by Ikuta Toma, was a troubled teenager that is now a detective but also had a dark past. Serizawa had murdered Tomoo’s brother Hideo but he had never met him before. Detective Serizawa later receives mysterious packages. Family and friends of Serizawa are targeted by Tomoo, receiving the same packages as he does. Whoever recives the packages means that they are going to get killed first. Whow will Serizawa save? Who will he not?

This drama was broadcasted on TBS channel from the 4th of July to he 12th of September and contains 11 episodes. It aired on fridays at 10.00 pm.

Maou won an award for the “Best Drama” in the “12th Nikkan Sports Drama Grand Prix”. In that same award show it won multiple awards for the acting. Satoshi Ohno won the award for “Best Actor”, Tanaka Kei who played Kasai Hitoshi, Serizawa’s school friend from 11 years ago who witnessed the death of Hideo, Tomoo’s brother, won the award for “Best Supporting Actor and Kobayashi Ryoko who played Sakita Shiori, the psychic girl who helped out with the murder cases, won the award for “Best Supporting Actress.

This Drama was one that gave a scary vibe to it. I liked the story line and the acting was very well played. I’d have to give Ohno Satoshi for the character he played because it is the opposite to his personality. Sometimes he looked like honestly, i believed that he was evil. Ikuta Toma also played his role well but not as convincing as Ohno. The story is okay but it’s not something that i’d like to see over and over again. These types of drama gets boring after a while because there is nothing to make you smil e. But if you are interested in dramas that fill you with emotion and suspence, then this is the right one for you. I’d have to give a thumbs down to one particular part of that drama when one of Serizawa’s close friends deceives his brother by sleeping with his wife (By the way, i didn’t spoil it. It’s a given). Then the woman abandones him. That makes me furious how she could do that to a person who risked his life to be with the one he loves.

This drama is based on a tragic past that caught up to him in his present. So I rate this drama: ★★★
